Portland’s Small Business Advisory Council (SBAC) is currently seeking dynamic individuals to join their ranks and help bring a voice to small businesses.

Successful applicants must be able to attend monthly SBAC meetings on a regular basis and be willing to commit to active participation on at least one committee.

To maintain a diverse membership we’re currently pursuing applicants located in SE, SW & N Portland areas and from the following industries and sectors:

  • Manufacturing/Production
  • Transportation
  • Construction
  • Healthcare
  • Hospitality/Tourism
  • Real Estate
  • Minority-owned, women-owned, and emerging small businesses or applicants connected to organizations representing such businesses.

The Membership Committee will consider all applicants and will make recommendations based on the SBAC’s needs. Contact Andrew Frazier at (503) 241-5151 for a membership application or to discuss membership requirements and expectations.

Subject Matter Experts

Are You a Small Business Owner?

Small Business Owners – We Need YOU!

The SBAC is recruiting 50 Subject Matter Experts who are small business owners in the Portland metropolitan area who want to take a more active role in building a city that vibrates with small business opportunities and success.

A subject matter expert is someone who knows and represents a particular geographic community, economic segment or industry (“NE Portland” or “Transportation”).  As opportunities arise, these representatives will be on hand for consultation and to volunteer their voice to the policy discussions and the development of solutions.

Background:

Over the last 5 years, the Small Business Advisory Council has become a strong voice informing City policy and speaking up on proposals that affect the success and viability of small businesses in the Portland metropolitan community. Our members are small business owners like you who are dedicated to making our City work better for us.

Because of our success on initiatives like the Small Business Bill of Rights, we now have many bureaus and City offices asking for a small business representative on advisory boards, task forces and committees. We also have numerous opportunities to offer testimony when a proposal goes before City Council. Our voice is being heard!

Our success has overwhelmed us. For years we complained that there was no small business voice “at the table.” Now there are more opportunities and demand than we can meet!

You can help. Consider applying to become a Subject Matter Expert with the SBAC and get your voice heard. For more information and application, download the application form (below) or contact Andrew Frazier at (503) 241-5151 for more details.
